Launceston Parish
The Launceston Parish Days in the Diocese Report is yet to come...
Launceston is a beautiful, fun place to visit. With many of our own young people having experienced World Youth Day, we are all very eager to invite people from around the world to come and share in our unique mix of city life, rural friendship, history and modern drive in a relaxed atmosphere.
In the Catholic Parish of Launceston we have many Mass centres including the Church of the Apostles, Launceston City; Sacred Heart Church, Newstead; St. Finn Bar's Church, Invermay; and St. Patrick's College Chapel, Prospect. We have a vibrant youth group structure, which caters to people aged 13 -35. We have reflection days, prayer sessions, camps, retreats and social functions.
The major Catholic school in our parish is St. Patrick's College; a school of approximately 1300 students. St. Patrick's was originally run by the Christian Brothers and is now in the hands of the faith filled laity. Other Religious Orders that live and work in Launceston are Sisters of St. Joseph, Presentation Sisters and Carmelites.
Launceston is a city with the attractions of natural beauty, modern developments and historic buildings. The population of 70,000 helps to support our wonderful attractions, which include Museums, Art Galleries, Historic Buildings, Nature reserves and the picturesque Cataract Gorge.
We are able to accommodate up to 500 pilgrims, so we would like to invite you to join us in this beautiful corner of the world and experience life in our parish.
