Kingston-Channel Parish
The Kingston-Channel Parish Days in the Diocese Report is yet to come...
The Kingston-Channel Parish is situated in the municipality of Kingborough in southern Tasmania. The region encompasses a wide variety of landscapes, activities and lifestyles.
Approximately 35,000 of the region's population live in the suburban areas of Kingston and Blackmans Bay, with many others in various small country towns such as Margate and Kettering. Kingston, the major centre, is about 12 kilometres from Hobart CBD.
The heart of the parish is the Church of Christ the Priest in Kingston Beach. The church's contemporary design features floor-to-ceiling windows behind the altar, which provides stunning views of the Derwent estuary and Hobart's iconic Mt. Wellington. We believe these are the best "views from the pews" of any Church in the world!
From Christ the Priest, the parish extends down the Derwent River's alternately rugged coastline and white beaches to the pristine wonders of Bruny Island. The region boasts an untouched natural environment, ideal for activities such as bushwalking, fishing and swimming.
Kingston-Channel Parish has three Mass centres (Kingston Beach, Snug and Bruny Island), with three masses every weekend, and one school (St. Aloysius Primary School) which is closely involved in the life of the parish. It is a lively and energetic parish with a strong youth presence and a sense of community and fellowship. There are many groups within the parish, including Young Adult Catholics, Neighbourhood Church Communities, the Legion of Mary, Knights of the Southern Cross and a Charismatic Renewal Prayer Group. The parish also contains Maryknoll Retreat and Conference Centre, which is run by the Presentation Sisters.
With such a range of spiritual, natural and cultural attractions, why wouldn't you come to the Kingston-Channel Parish? We are able to host up to 150 overseas pilgrims for Days in the Diocese and look forward to welcoming you!
